A nice Thank You card for DJ Joe!

We have very strict guidelines regarding who we trust to represent Pittsburgh DJ Company... we only hire the best DJ's!

Like all of our DJ's, Joe Orbovich actually cares about the events he's playing and wants them to be as perfect as possible! In turn, he gets great reviews and today we received a hand-written Thank You card! Joe must've made a great impression!

June 9 Wedding! ...and how we met Bill & Autumn.

So, while Dean (me) & Janae were taking the night off enjoying the Girl Talk Show... DJ Matt Miller was rocking a great wedding for Bill & Autumn!

I met Bill & Autumn in January 2012, while I was DJing at Soldiers & Sailors Hall; and actually, they were the photographers that evening for a beautiful winter wedding! You can see their work at SkySight Photography
I always talk to the photographers at weddings, of course I like to coordinate the night's timeline with them, but also just because I enjoy it. It's always nice when you have a friendly co-vendor that you can talk to through-out the evening. So when we started talking, Autumn says "Dean from Pittsburgh DJ Company? You were just recommended to us from another photographer for our own wedding!" About a year before, I had DJ'd the wedding of a local photographer. (Pamela Marie Photography) Pam & Mark are such an awesome couple and we had so much fun at their wedding! I've worked with Pam a couple of times now, and she was going to be the photographer for Bill & Autumn's June 2012 wedding. So, not only were we recommended to Bill & Autumn; but now they had a chance to work with me before they even contacted us!

So, they told me their date... it was June 9 & I had JUST bought tix to see one of my fave live acts, Pittsburgh's own, GIRL TALK. So, I told them that I couldn't DJ their wedding, but that it was no problem because I have other Pro DJ's in my company, and from what style they were describing, I set up a meeting for them with Matt Miller. If you guys don't know, Matt is my partner with PGHDJCO and his style is pretty similar to mine. We actually have 5 DJ's including me & all of the DJ's in my organization are very professional & get rave reviews! I trust every one of them or I wouldn't work with them!

Anyway- enough backstory! Let's get to the wedding! It was held at the Blue Moon Barn & Covered Bridge and PGHDJCO supplied a lapel mic for the ceremony, as well as the dance lights for the reception! Matt likes photography himself, so he took some great pics & made a short video too. Take a look!

The Bride & Groom  supplied their own glow sticks and Bill even made a custom music mix for Matt to play during the evening! Matt reports back that it was a great time had by all the guests & he even stayed for some over-time!

In fact, Bill already gave us a quick blurb!

"Awesome time at our wedding!!! Thanks so much for making it such a great event and being flexible with all of my musical requests. It made the event very memorable for us."

If you'd like to book any of our DJ's, including Matt, contact us at Pittsburgh DJ Company asap! We are booking up fast! And if you have a specific DJ in mind, just request that person and we'll setup a meeting!

Janae & Dean go to the GIRL TALK show!

Ok, so maybe you've never heard of Girl Talk...?

Actually, he is one guy, Gregg Gillis, born & raised in Pittsburgh! (you know how I LOOVE all things Pittsburgh!) But he tours nationwide and several other countries as the mash-up & digital sampling artist known as Girl Talk. Incidentally, here is a quote from him on why he picked that name:
"I wanted to pick a name that the overly serious, borderline academic type electronic musicians would be embarrassed to play with. You know Girl Talk sounded exactly the opposite of a man playing a laptop, so that’s what I chose."

So, Janae & I headed down to the North Shore for the show & a night-out, first we went to McFadden's and met up with our friends Amanda & JK who were going to the Pirates game & Boyz 2 Men concert after. We hung with them for a while, then we met up with our friends Matt & Jen for the GT show.

After a long wait in line with drunk college kids wearing Dayglo, we made it into the show! The opening act was fun... but then the real show began! Girl Talk shows are so much fun and I highly recommend you attend the next chance you get. The crowd is crazy excited and you hear everything from brand new artists, to songs that are 40 years old, all mashed into a crazy dance party. Doesn't matter if it's Elton John or Wiz Khalifa or Miley Cyrus or Black Sabbath, it's all put into the Girl Talk blender  and cheesy magic is poured out! LMAO!

I took some pics and a short video. Once I got home & saw how great the video & sound had turned out, I wish I would have shot more. I thought for sure all you would hear was bass..

Pittsburgh Magazine 23rd Annual Best Restaurants Party!

Janae & Dean took some time last night to head down to the Best Restaurant's Party at Heinz Field. This is an annual award by Pittsburgh Magazine & the party has become a tradition as well. It was held inside Heinz Field in the East & West Wings.
Once inside, you could sample a bite of each restaurant's signature dish with the beautiful huge windows at Heinz Field serving as a backdrop... and believe me, there were lots of unique dishes to try! Our favorites were the delicious meatballs from Joseph Tambellini & the macarons from Paris 66. OMG, these must've been the best cookies that I have ever tasted!
The winner of best in show went to: Cure. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try their sample, but it must've been good! Congrats!
At the event, we were interviewed by Pittsburgh magazine.. I wonder if we'll make it into a mag or onto TV somewhere..?

The after-party was held at the Rivers Casino in a private room with a gorgeous view of the city! The music was provided by a local whom I had never met before tonight; DJ Matt Donnelly who did an awesome job playing some great tunes. Besides free food & drinks, we also got a voucher for $10 on the slots, which we promptly lost... wait, let me clarify... I lost my $10 to the slot machines and Janae lost the actual voucher before it could be redeemed! LOL!

All in all, we had a great time at this event & even got to network with a couple of people & places. It was a nice night out and we had lots of fun together!

3 Weddings on 6/2/12!

Pittsburgh DJ Company booked 3 weddings on June 2, 2012 & what a great day for a wedding!

The weather was a wonderful 70 degrees or so, with no humidity & a cool breeze!

  • DJ Dean McAfee was with Tara & Mike at Lutherlyn Hall.
  • DJ Matt Miller was with Chad & Karen at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association.
  • DJ Joe Orbovich was with Kayla & Chad at Waterfront Place Hotel in WV.

All DJ's report a FUN TIME had by all! These weddings were all great successes.

  • Dean's wedding started very early (dinner was OVER by 4:30!) but the guests got into the fun with a crazy dancefloor... let's just say there were scuff-marks on the walls!
  • Matt's wedding had some crashers... the wedding in the room next door came over to party with his wedding & soon he was DJing for 2 brides & grooms! Let's hope the dancefloor was where that ended- hahaha!
  • Joe's wedding had packed dancefloor too & they even had him stay an hour over-time! The bride took the time to email him a thank you note the very next morning!

Although these are definitely not our 1st weddings of 2012, this is the 1st blogpost... so I'm sure I'll get better at it!
I just want a place where we can showcase ALL of our great DJ's!
